Well, first of all there has never been any solid proof to that theory. All the so called evidence is circumstantial.<br /><br />However, what makes me believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that conspiracy is a complete fabrication is the simple fact (one you failed to mention) that the Second Chechen war had already begun in Dagestan a month prior to the Moscow bombings. The extremist Chechen militants invaded Dagestan in early August '99 killing hundreds of Russians during their offensive assault, and thus began the Second Chechen War. Putin needed no further reason to squash the rebels for good after that, and the public was already on his side.<br /><br />Honestly, to suggest that he would take the lives of almost a thousand of his citizens just to affirm public approval for an invasion that most people already approved of is beyond cynical.
